Chapter 4 Walkthrough: Your Apartment and the First Spell
Chapter 4 of The Bibliophile: unlock your apartment at the Severn, study the spellbook to learn Mend Wound and answer the garbled call from Dr. Coffey.
FAQ
Why does cast mend wounds not work in The Bibliophile?
What do I do after answering the phone in chapter 4?
What happens in chapter 4?
This is the shortest chapter and the one where the game becomes a spellcasting game. You return to your apartment in the Severn building, read from the spellbook Coffey gave you and learn your first spell. Then a phone call tells you that your friend is in trouble.
What are the exact commands for chapter 4?
Start in the lobby of the Severn, where Chapter 3 ended.
n
unlock door
n
study volume
answer cell
How do I get into the apartment?
The first n takes the elevator to the second floor, where your apartment door is directly north of the elevator. The game picks the right key itself when you type unlock door, so you do not have to name one. Then n steps into the kitchen area.
How do I learn Mend Wound?
Type study volume. The book, a thick volume called Thaumaturgical Prodigies of the New England Canaan, teaches you Mend Wound. The time passes to Monday evening and your phone starts to ring. The spell is cast with cast mend wound, singular. Older guides print the plural, which the game rejects. The spells guide covers when to use it.
There are optional things to look at in the apartment, but none of them is needed for the main route.
Who is on the phone?
Type answer cell. You get garbled static and Coffey’s weak voice saying your name and the word libretto. The game suggests you pay him a visit at his townhome. Chapter 5 starts when you leave the Severn. Before you go, check that your satchel is open. The next chapter has a fight, and the survival tips explain why room in your inventory matters.
